Othmar J. “Ottie” Weis
LEIPSIC – Othmar J. “Ottie” Weis, 85, of Leipsic, passed away at 5:56 p.m., Monday, October 5, 2026, at Bridge Hospice, Findlay, surrounded by his loving family. He was born March 20, 1941, in Leipsic to the late Richard and Esther (Schumaker) Weis. On October 10, 1964, he married the love of his life, Eileen Hilvers, who survives in Leipsic.
Other survivors include four children: Kathy (Greg) Rieman, Denise (Doug) Mangas, Karen (Troy) Gillespie, all of Leipsic and Jason (Stephanie) Weis of Whitehouse; twelve grandchildren: Ashley (Isaac) Krinke, Rachel (Dylan) Schey, Lindsey (Hunter) Meyer, Cole (Kierra) Rieman, Ryan (Danielle) Mangas, Ross (Madeline) Mangas, Reese (Claire) Mangas, Kelsie (Matt) Schroeder, Tyler Gillespie, Kaleb Gillespie, Brayden Weis and Gavin Weis; nine great-grandchildren: Wrenley, Lennon, Tatum, Hattie, Henry, Oaklyn, Myles, Wyatt, Whitney and two more on the way; and a sister, Janet (Ralph) Westrick of Leipsic.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by five siblings: Ursula Weis, Rose Ann (Clete) Morman, Margaret (Delmar) Schroeder, Janelda (Dennis) Halker and Dennis Weis; and a special aunt, Agnes Schumaker.
Ottie was a lifelong electrician, retiring from McNaughton-McKay. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Leipsic, Leipsic American Legion and VFW, Leipsic Eagles, AMVETS and Ottawa Knights of Columbus. Family meant everything to Ottie, especially spending time with family for Saturday morning coffee gatherings. Ottie had a great devotion to his faith, especially praying the rosary and praying to St. Anthony.
Funeral Mass will begin at 10:30 a.m., Friday, October 9, 2026, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Leipsic with Fr. Randy Giesige and Fr. Ron Schock officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites by Leipsic American Legion and VFW. A visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Leipsic and again on Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Parish Life Center, Leipsic prior to Mass.
Memorial donations may be made to Putnam County CAP or a charity of the donor’s choice.
