Paul Alfred Bellman
OTTAWA - Paul A. Bellman, 85 of Ottawa died 11:25 a.m. Thursday, April 2, 2020 at Good Sheppard Hospice, Auburndale, FL. He was one of nine children, born June 16, 1934 in Hamler to the late Joseph and Martha (Meyer) Bellman. On February 23, 1963 he married Martha (Niese) Rosengarten, and became a dad to three children. Martha died September 22, 2001. He then married Betty (Fletcher) Wells on November 26, 2002, and became a dad to four more children. Betty survives in Ottawa.
Paul is survived by his children: Marilyn Monesmith of York, SC, Robert (Donna) Rosengarten of York, SC, Michael (Evelyn) Cole Jr. of Findlay, Jane Morado of Houston, TX, Neil (Tonya) Cole of Crestville Hills, KY, and Dr. Brian (Dr. Jessie) Wells of Winston-Salem, NC; a daughter-in-law: Judy Rosengarten of Ottawa; brothers: Leon Bellman of Willard, and Virgil Bellman of Ottawa; sisters: Mary (Tom) Wilhelm of New Bavaria, and Edna (Dick) Kahle of Defiance; brothers-in-law: Jerry (Lucrita) Rosengarten of Ottawa, Gene (Pat) Niese of Leipsic, Perry Fletcher, Jim (Cindy) Fletcher both of Findlay, and Paul D. (Bonnie) Wells of Milton, PA; sisters-in-law: Ruth Rosengarten, Doris Rosengarten, Marlene Niese, Carolyn (Larry) Korte, Linda (Jim) Maas, Ruth Kuhlman, Betty Bellman, Doris Niese, Billie Bohanon, and Patricia (Jack) Parren.
He is preceded in death by a son: Kenneth Rosengarten; three brothers: Richard, James and Norman Bellman; a sister Viola Siebeneck; and a grandchild.
Paul was an Army veteran serving from 1956-1959, he spent eighteen months in Korea. He retired from North American Philips after 41 years as an electrician. He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa K of C, Glandorf Rod & Gun Club, Catholic War Veterans', Quarter Century Club, Coldwater Eagles, VFW, and former member for 22 years of the Ottawa Fire Department, he was also a member of the Moose Lodge and Sons of the Legion in Florida.
Paul and Martha enjoyed a home on Rose Lake, MI and a place in Florida. Paul worked at K-Mart both in Michigan and Florida. He loved to fish on Lake Erie, bowl and play cards. In 2005 Paul and Betty purchased a home in Haines City, FL. They gained another family of friends at Lake Henry Estates, a gated community that became home. Together they were volunteer bartenders, sponsored Super Bowl parties, played cards and shuffle board, and hosted Happy Hours. Paul was known as Pappy, Grandpa, Papaw, Paulie, Paulie Bear, and burrhead when playing 31. He always had a smile and was quite the wisecracker. Anyone can be a dad, but it takes a special man to be a step-dad, and Paul was that man.
A private funeral mass will be held at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8, 2020 with Father Rick Friebel officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The funeral services will be live streamed through Sts. Peter and Paul Church Facebook page.
