Paul E. McCullough

GILBOA - Paul E. McCullough, 95, of Gilboa, died 11:18 p.m. Sunday, December 5, 2021 at the Meadows of Ottawa. He was born April 26, 1926 to the late Wilbur W. and Jennie (McGee) McCullough. Paul married Lois Hilty and later divorced. He then married Sandra Dukes in 2003 and she survives in Pandora.

Paul is survived by five children: Richard McCullough, Charles McCullough, Deb Mansfield, all of Gilboa,  Lou Schaublin and Julie Deitering, both of Bluffton; five stepchildren; 13 grandchildren; 15 step-grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 13 step-great-grandchildren; and several cousins.

He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Jason Mansfield; and a sister, Mary Lou (Ralph) Povenmire.

Paul was a graduate of Blanchard Twp High School Class of 1944 and class secretary.   He proudly served in the United States Navy as a signalman aboard the U.S.S. San Marcos during WWII. Paul took over the family business after his father's passing and operated the Gilboa Garage for over 70 years. He was a former volunteer fireman with the Gilboa Fire Department also serving as Chief. He was a former councilman and Mayor of Gilboa. Paul was a proud freemason of 75 years, joining Ottawa Lodge #325 after the war. He served as lodge secretary from 1999 until 2010. He was a current member of Israel Putnam #797, 32 Degree Scottish Rite member of Valley of Toledo and Knights Templar Findlay Commandery #49.  He was also a member of Harter-Williams Legion Post #536 in Gilboa. Paul enjoyed horses and riding motorcycles.

A Masonic service will be held 7:30 p.m. Friday, December 17, 2021 at HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa. Visitation will be 5 - 7:30 p.m. on Friday prior to the service. Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 18, 2021 at Clymer Cemetery, Pandora with Pastor Mike Hartman officiating and military rites by Gilboa American Legion.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Putnam County Homecare and Hospice or the Knights Templar Eye Foundation.
