Paul Lawrence Niese

MILLER CITY – Paul Lawrence Niese, 75, of Miller City died peacefully at 3:50 p.m. on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born August 20, 1942 in Leipsic to the late Vincent and Mary (Kleman) Niese. On May 25, 1963 he married Eileen Otto, the love of his life, who survives in Miller City.

Also surviving are four children, Jacalyn (Robert) Gerten and Kelly (Dale) Schey both of Leipsic, Pamela (Jeff) Siefker of Miller City, and Rodney (Jill) Niese of Marion; twelve grandchildren; Lindsey (BJ) Slusser, Aaron (Jen Berta) Gerten, Chelsea  (Brandon) Kahle, Emily Gerten, Haley Gerten, Nathan Schey, Dylan Schey, Nicholas Schey, Corey Niese, Madison Niese, Allyson Niese, Danielle Siefker; two great-grandchildren, Evelyn Slusser, Mailey Slusser;   three sisters, Dolores Schroeder of Columbus Grove, Marie (Ralph) Pothast of Glandorf and Norma (Denny) Michelsen of Leipsic; and a sister-in-law, Dort Niese of Leipsic. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Donald (Marvelle) and Melvin Niese and a brother-in-law, Alvin Schroeder.

Paul was a factory supervisor. He was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Miller City, the Ottawa Knights of Columbus, Miller City Sportsman Club, Leipsic VFW, and AM VETS. He was an Army National Guard veteran.

Paul was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, bowling, hunting, playing solo and horseshoes. He was an avid sports fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes and Cleveland Indians and loved attending countless sporting events of his children and grandchildren. He also coached girls basketball and baseball.

Paul's ornery personality brought smiles to many people and will forever be missed.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Miller City with Msgr. Charles Singler officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. till time we leave for church on Saturday  at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa, where there will be a K of C Rosary at 8 p.m. on Friday.

Memorials may be made to Putnam County Hospice or to CAP (Cancer Assistance Program).
