Paul E. Ruen
OTTOVILLE – Paul E. Ruen, 87, of Ottoville, passed away at 7:20 a.m., Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at The Meadows of Kalida. He was born June 27, 1936, in Ottoville to the late Aloysius and Loretta (Hilvers) Ruen. On August 19, 1961, he married Joan R. Morman, who survives in Ottoville.
Other survivors include three children: Jane (Ken) De Wood of Findlay, Michael (Annette) Ruen of Antwerp and Beth (James) Miller of Celina; 11 grandchildren: Andrea (Tyler) Hovest of Ottawa, Luke (Samantha) Turnwald of Ottoville, Misty (Mike) Miles of Gilbert, SC, Nic De Wood of New Braunfels, TX, Taylor (Brock) Taylor, Sidney (Derek) Smalley, Madison Ruen, all of Antwerp, Jennifer (David) Weitzel of Celina, Maggie (Jared) Ley of Cincinnati, Jamie Miller of Cincinnati and Ryan (Taylor) Miller of Findlay; 23 great-grandchildren with two on the way; six siblings: Mary Honigford of Coldwater, Mildred Ruen of Ottoville, Catherine Heitz of Landeck, Irene Bullard of Ottoville, Roger (Diane) Ruen of Columbus and Marilyn (Dale) Calvelage of Ottoville; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Ruen of Delphos; and in-laws: Martha Ellerbrock of Columbus Grove, Paul Morman of Dayton, Angela (Norman) Meyers of Payne, Virgil (Marilyn) Morman of Ottawa and David (Sue) Morman of Troy.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers: Fred Ruen and Joseph Ruen; sister-in-law, Ann Ruen; two brothers-in-law: Paul Honigford and Melvin Heitz; and in-laws: Elmer Ellerbrock, Jim (Mary Jane) Morman and Patricia Morman.
Paul was a 1955 graduate of Ottoville High School. He retired from Ford Motor Company, Lima and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Paul was a former member of the Board of Directors of the Ottoville Mutual Telephone Co. and OTEC Communications Co., Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville and lifetime member of the Ottoville VFW and Ottoville Lions Club. Paul was a blood donor and an active volunteer in his community and church. He loved to play cards, golf and travel. In his travels, Paul visited all 50 states and 40 different countries.
The family would like to thank the nurses and aides at The Meadows of Kalida for their great care of Paul.
Funeral Mass will begin 10:30 a.m., Monday, January 22, 2024 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville with the Very Reverend George Mahas officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites by the Ottoville VFW and Fort Jennings American Legion. Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. on Sunday and 9 to 10 a.m. on Monday at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Jackson Township. A scripture service will be held at 1:45 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville or a charity of the donor's choice.
