Paul J. Smith

COLUMBUS GROVE -- Paul J. Smith, 73, of Columbus Grove died 9:54 a.m. Friday, November 15, 2019 at Mercy Health St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima.  He was born January 22, 1946 in Lima to the late Othmar and Clara (Hilvers) Smith.  On December 1, 1978, he married Karen Ruhe.  They enjoyed 40 wonderful years of marriage together.

Paul is survived by 3 sisters:  Jeanette Knippen of Ottoville, Dorothy Bonifas of Landeck and Joan (Ray) Moening of Fort Jennings; a brother:  Kenneth (Karen) Smith of Columbus Grove; and his dog and faithful companion:  Penny.

He was preceded in death by 3 brothers-in-law:  George Knippen, George Bonifas and Kenneth Kramer.

Paul was a lifelong farmer and he truly enjoyed farming, gardening and all things outdoors.  He was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Columbus Grove.  He was a member of the Ottawa Eagles.  Paul also enjoyed getting his daily news and coffee while spending his mornings at Tabler's.

The funeral mass will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 20, 2019 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Columbus Grove with Father David Ritchie officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be Tuesday from 2 to 8 p.m. at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa where a scripture service will be held at 8 p.m.
