Phyllis E. Spitnale

CLOVERDALE – Phyllis E. Spitnale, 94, of Cloverdale, passed away at 9:45 a.m., Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at The Meadows of Kalida surrounded by her loving family. She was born March 2, 1931, in New Bavaria to the late Clarence and Grace (Dennison) Polhamus. On May 27, 1950, she married Gene F. Spitnale, who preceded her in death on April 3, 1996.

She is survived by three sons: Gregory (Sandra) Spitnale of Continental, Bradley (Rebecca) Spitnale of Defiance and Doug (Patty) Spitnale of Port St. Joe, FL; 10 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Jean Polhamus of Pleasant Bend.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by a brother, Richard Polhamus.

Phyllis worked for Sylvania, Ottawa and had also been a dedicated rural mail carrier in Cloverdale for 32 years. She was a member of Continental United Methodist Church, where she formerly played piano. She was also a member of the women's club and linger longer club. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, working on puzzles and baking her delicious chocolate chip cookies. Phyllis loved visiting her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 10, 2025, at Continental United Methodist Church with Pastor Monica Kleman officiating. Burial will follow at Cascade Cemetery, Cloverdale. Visitation will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. on Sunday at HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Continental and 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday prior to the service at the church.
