Richard F. Birkemeier

OTTAWA - Richard F. "R.B. Dick" Birkemeier, 83, of Ottawa, passed away at 6:56 p.m. on Monday, October 2, 2023 at Mercy Health St. Rita's Ambulatory Care Center, Glandorf. He was born March 20, 1940 in Lima to the late Lawrence and Elizabeth (Otto) Birkemeier.  On May 6, 1961, he married Doris A. Seimet, who preceded him in death on November 16, 2021.

Survivors include three daughters: Lisa (Thomas) Dulaney of Virginia Beach, VA., Lori  (Scott) Recker of Kalida and Lana (Dean) Foppe of Glandorf; eight grandchildren: Alisha Dulaney, Jacob Dulaney, Brianna (Kristopher) Osterhage, Kiersten (Bradley) Nuveman, Brayden (Clara Elkins) Recker, Justin (Kailyn Sapienza) Foppe, Austin (Hope Nixon) Foppe, and Camryn Foppe; a great-grandchild, Kade Osterhage, and one more on the way; and three siblings: Joann (Don) Langhals of Columbus Grove, Larry (Kathy) Birkemeier of Defiance and Dorothy (Frank) Schroeder of Kalida.

He was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Amber Foppe.

Richard previously worked for WT Kuhlman, then later started Dick Birkemeier Construction and Insulating. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Glandorf and the Holy Name Society, Ottawa Eagles, Kalida Fish and Game Club, Leipsic Fish and Game Club, EAA 636 Club, Knights of Columbus 4th Degree Knight and former member of the Glandorf Lions Club and Glandorf Garden Club.  He enjoyed spending time with his friends and family.

Funeral Mass will begin at 10:30 a.m., Friday, October 6, 2023 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Glandorf with Fr. Rick Friebel officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2 – 8 p.m. on Thursday and one hour prior to mass on Friday at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa. Knights of Columbus Rosary Service will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Putnam County Council on Aging.
