Richard H. Carder

OTTOVILLE – Richard H. Carder, 93, of Ottoville, passed away at 2:30 a.m., Thursday, June 26, 2025, at his residence. He was born January 12, 1932, in Delphos to the late Frank G. and Elise C. (Blockburger) Carder. On August 25, 1956, he married JoAnn Miller. She preceded him in death on June 19, 2012.

He is survived by four children: Ricky (Deborah) Carder of Ottawa, Debra (James) Verhoff of Columbus Grove, Kathy McKee of Ravena and John Carder of Ottoville; 11 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and in-laws: Stan (Darlene) Miller of Ottawa and Marianne Miller of Ottoville.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by nine siblings: Myrtle (Frances) Brotherwood, Amelia (Richard) Bullinger, Orville (Clara) Carder, Donald (Lucille) Carder, Lois (Wilfred) Osting, Delbert (Martha) Carder, Mary Lou (Rollin) Bullinger, Jeanette (Donald) Mesker and Colleen Carder; and an in-law, Roger Miller.

Richard was a 1950 graduate of St. John's High School, Delphos and retired from Fruehauf Trailers, Delphos after 50+ years of service. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville.  His favorite activities included: working in his workshop and garden, raising hogs and chickens, and spending time with his friends and family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the Ottoville EMS, Police and Fire Departments, Putnam County EMS, Putnam County Council on Aging, Mercy Health St. Rita's Medical Center, Ohio Health, Ottoville, CHP, Oakley's Pharmacy, and numerous relatives and friends who have helped in caring for Richard, allowing him to remain at home.

Funeral Mass will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 1, 2025 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville with Fr. John Stites officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Ottoville. Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. on Monday and 9 to 10 a.m. on Tuesday at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Jackson Township.
