Richard "Dick" Hiegel

LEIPSIC – Richard "Dick" Hiegel, 92, of Leipsic, passed away at 4:55 a.m., Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at The Meadows of Leipsic. He was born July 15, 1933, in Leipsic to the late Floyd and Martha (Stoup) Hiegel. On May 2, 1957, he married Sharon Buzard, who survives in Leipsic.

He is also survived by two sons: Craig (Vicki) Hiegel of Ottawa and Mitch (Jule "Tood") Hiegel of Leipsic; five grandchildren: Brennan (Kelsey) Hiegel, Taylor (Isaac) Honigford, Jackie Hiegel, Tasha (Jeff) Knueven and Heather Vasquez; eight great-grandchildren with one on the way; a brother, Tom (Sandy) Hiegel of Dayton; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Hiegel of Leipsic.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two brothers: Paul Hiegel and Chuck (Janet) Hiegel; and a sister, Janice (Dean) Osborne.

Dick retired from Whirlpool, Findlay and had previously worked for Weatherseal, Ottawa and Cooper, Findlay. He was a veteran of the US Air Force and member of the Leipsic Methodist Church, where he served as the former church treasurer. Dick enjoyed visiting Holmes County with his family and was an avid fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes, Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Indians and Leipsic Vikings. Dick supported Putnam Pet Pals and loved his dog, Brutus.

Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 11, 2025, at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Leipsic with Pastor Ruth Carter-Crist officiating. Burial will follow at Sugar Ridge Cemetery, Leipsic with military rites by the Leipsic American Legion, VFW, AMVETS and DAV. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday and 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
