Richard J. Lauer

GLANDORF – Richard J. Lauer, 89, of Glandorf, died 8:17 a.m. Thursday, September 7, 2017 at his residence.  He was born December 24, 1927 in  Ottoville to the late Arnold and Mildred (Obringer) Lauer. On April 25, 1953 he married Edna M. Schroeder who preceded him in death on October 14, 2014.  He is also preceded in death by a brother, James A. Lauer and a sister, Martha Ellerbrock.

He is survived by his 5 children: Karen Lauer of Mesa, AZ, David (Marge) Lauer of Greencastle, IN, Kevin (Becky) Lauer of Delaware, Michelle (Tony) Rosselit of Pandora, and Jeff (Chris) Lauer of Mesa, AZ; 10 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; a brother, Bill (Corrine) Lauer of Vandalia; five sisters, Ruth Giesige of Ottawa, Lois Flynn of Sebring, FL, Irene (Dave) Flynn of Virginia, Alice Siefker of Ottawa and Nancy Warnimont of Continental.

Richard retired in 1982 from Philips, Ottawa and then moved to Mesa, AZ to pursue a second career as a small business owner.  He owned and operated Sun Eliminator Screen Shop, Mesa, AZ.  He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and was a life member of the Ottawa, VFW.  He was a member of the Ottawa American Legion and the Ottawa K of C.  He loved to play cards and enjoyed seeing his great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 11, 2017 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Glandorf with Fr. Tony Fortman officiating. Burial will follow in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Ottawa with military rites by the Ottawa VFW, American Legion and AMVETS. Visitation will be Sunday from 1 to 6 p.m. at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa where a parish rosary will be held at 5:30 p.m.
