Richard F. Vorst
Kalida -- Richard F. Vorst, 76, of Kalida died 8:00 p.m. February 15, 2013 at the Meadows of Ottawa Glandorf, surrounded by his family. He was born July 28, 1936 in Kalida to the late August and Mary (Gerdeman) Vorst. On April 11, 1959 he married Wilma R. Meyer, who survives in Kalida.
Also surviving are his seven children: Kevin (Becky) Vorst of Continental, Sharon (Elmer) Meyer of Glandorf, Gerry (Kathy) Vorst of Kalida, Brenda (Brian) Maag of Glandorf, Steve (Kathy) Vorst of Landeck, Scott (Brenda) Vorst of Kalida, and Tracy (Brian) Siefker of Glandorf; 21 grandchildren: Adam Vorst; Nicole (Nick) Siewert; Tyler (Hannah) Vorst; Amanda Vorst; Abigail (Derek) Blake; Jared (Chelsea) West; Alexis and Nathan Vorst; Stacy, Chelsea, and Derek Maag; Jordan and Amanda Vorst; Alex, Kyle, and Spencer Vorst, Ericka and Brooke Kimball; Brendon, Ashlyn and Aubrey Siefker; 3 great-grandchildren: Cameron Urivez, Addison and Jackson Siewert; 2 brothers: Charles (Diane) Vorst of Kalida and Kenneth Vorst of Ottawa; and sister: Rose (Arnold) Siebeneck of Kalida.
He was preceded in death by a brother: Robert Vorst; and a grandson.
Richard graduated from Kalida High School in 1954. He was a US Army veteran, where he served in Korea. Richard was a lifelong farmer and truck driver, with a fondness for John Deere tractors and Mack tractor trailers. Richard was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Kalida, and its Holy Name Society; Kalida Knights of Columbus; the Ottawa and Ottoville VFW, and the Ottawa Eagles.
He thoroughly enjoyed playing cards and trying his luck on the occasional day trip to the casino. Most of all though, Richard loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He had a very loving heart and will be missed dearly by his family and friends. The memories he made with them will forever be cherished.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Kalida, with Fr. Mark Hoying officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery where there will be military rites by the Ottawa VFW. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2 to 8 p.m. at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Jackson Township, where a scripture service will be held at 4 p.m.
