Rita Louise Maag

KALIDA – Rita Louise Maag, 88, of Kalida, passed away on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at her residence. She was born May 7, 1938, in Kalida to the late Henry and Irene (Unverferth) Holtkamp. On July 12, 1958, she married Dennis A. Maag. He preceded her in death on July 1, 2023.

Rita is survived by four children: Debra (Jeff) Unverferth of Sylvania, Doug (Justine) Maag of Dublin, Dean (Lisa) Maag of Cloverdale, and Danielle (Mike) Beveridge of Sylvania; eleven grandchildren: Sonny (Chelsey) Unverferth, Lauren (Jack McGrath) Unverferth, Rachael Unverferth, Sidney Unverferth, Jameson (Heather) Maag, Benjamin Maag, Sean Maag, Henry Maag, Addie Beveridge, Lainey Beaveridge, and Austin Beveridge; four great-grandchildren; Hadlee, Graham Maag, Lucas Maag, Miles Unverferth; a sister-in-law: Virginia Holtkamp, her partner in mischief. Rita is also survived by her life-long friend, Kenny Unverferth, Kalida.

She was preceded in death by her siblings, Irma (Nolan) Krouse, Dorothy (Tom) Smith, Don Holtkamp, Gene (Betty) Holtkamp and Joan (Joe) Pequignot.

Rita was always the outgoing life of the party who knew no stranger. A fashionista, she was known for her “twinkle” and shine. She was a one-of-a-kind lady who could do it all, from being a mechanic, a gardener, a seamstress, even a rockstar! There was nothing she couldn’t do! A devout catholic, she was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, Kalida, where she had formerly been a member of the liturgy committee, using her talents as an artist. She will really be missed by all those who knew her, and those who didn’t really missed out on something special.

Funeral Mass will begin at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, October 2, 2026, at St. Michael Catholic Church, Kalida, with Fr. Phil Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 1, 2026, from 2 to 8 p.m. at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Jackson Township and again on Friday from 10 to 11 a.m.
