Rita C. Schroeder
LEIPSIC - Rita C. Schroeder, 97, of Leipsic, passed away on Sunday, November 13, 2016 while under the care of Bridge Hospice Care Center in Findlay. The oldest of nine children, she was born on May 15, 1919 in Kalida, Ohio to the late Albert and Stella (Kaufman) Maag. On May 14, 1941 she married Omer Schroeder and he preceded her in death on September 6, 1987.
Rita is survived by two daughters, Carol Moats of Sandusky, Ohio and Pat (Dave) Gonso of Findlay; six grandchildren, Pam (Chris) Kwiatkowski of South Carolina, Julie (Michael) Knox of Wisconsin, Brian (Liza) Moats of California, Brittany (JT) Pianetta of Florida, Lauren (Al) Pizzuti of Michigan, and Katie (Jeremy) Woodard of Findlay; eight great-grandchildren and one on the way. She is also survived by a brother, Walter (Janet) Maag of Leipsic, and two sisters, Agnes Karhoff and Teresa (Arnie) Borgelt, both of Glandorf. Rita is also preceded in death by a son-in-law, James Moats; her brothers, George, Robert, Modestus (Dessie), and Edgar Maag; and her sister, Velma Hovest.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Leipsic; the Catholic Ladies of Columbia, the Altar Rosary Society, and the Sunshine Quilt Club. Her priorities in life were her faith in God and her love of family. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, gardening, and playing euchre and solo. In her later years she enjoyed the challenge of Sudoku puzzles.
A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 18, 2016 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Leipsic, with Fr. William Pifher officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Leipsic. Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. on Thursday at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Leipsic and one hour prior to the funeral mass on Friday at the church. There will be a Rosary Altar, Catholic Ladies of Columbia, rosary service at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary's Building of Generations of Service Fund or to the Area Agency on Aging, 200 East High St., 2nd floor, Lima, Ohio, 45801.
