Rita M. Martin

FT. JENNINGS - Rita M. Martin, 88, of Ft. Jennings died at 12 noon Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at her residence. She was born August 11, 1929 in Lima to the late Otto R. and Theresa L. (Gerdeman) Pothast. On June 14, 1950 she married Norman F. Martin who died May 10, 1986.

She is survived by two children, Jerry (Evelyn) Martin and Jane (Bill Ellerbrock) Schimmoeller both of Ft. Jennings; six grandchildren, Michelle (Ken) Porr, Louise (Ron) Crawford, Jeff Martin, Karen (Ryan) Horstman, Kate (Bryan) Blue, and Kim (Adam) Siefker; fourteen great-grandchildren, Kaleb, Lauren, and Brandon Porr,  Mason and Zach Crawford, Haley, Karlee, Courtney, and Abby Horstman, Bryant and Kaden Blue, and Grant, Garrett, and Lillian Siefker; and a brother, Ralph (Marie) Pothast. She was also preceded in death by a great-grandson, Sage Porr and a son-in-law, Daniel Schimmoeller.

Rita was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ft. Jennings and the Catholic Ladies of Columbia. Rita enjoyed playing cards and bingo, baking cookies, embroidering, and going to fairs with her son.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 16, 2017 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ft. Jennings with Fr. Charles Obinwa officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. on Friday and from 9 a.m. until the departure for Mass on Saturday at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Jackson Township where there will be a Scripture Service at 1:30 p.m. and a C L of C Rosary at 6 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
