Robert J. "Bob" Kaple
OTTOVILLE – Robert J. "Bob" Kaple, 82, of Ottoville, died 1:16 a.m., Wednesday, August 17, 2022, at his residence. He was born July 12, 1940, in Lima to the late Otmar and Evelyn (Schlemach) Kaple. On July 11, 1986, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville, he married Mary Ann (Wehri) Schimmoeller. She died February 9, 2008.
Survivors include two children: Carl (Mylinda) Schimmoeller of Kalida and Connie (Dave) Looser of Ottoville; nine grandchildren: Tyler (Erin) Looser, Jostin Schimmoeller, Kallie Schimmoeller, Amy (Chris) Klenz, Sabrie Bodden, Joey Schimoeller, Mariah Schimmoeller, Jacobie Schimmoeller and Jarrick Schimmoeller; two great-grandchildren: Hunter Robert Klenz and Ashley Sue Klenz; a brother: Paul Kaple of Fremont; a sister: Mary Ann Deitering of New Cleveland; a sister-in-law: Miriam Kaple of Atlanta, GA. Bob was also an uncle, great uncle, great-great uncle to many nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers: Don Kaple and Bill (Naomi) Kaple; and a brother-in-law, Tom Deitering.
Bob graduated from Lima Central High School, received his bachelor's degree from Bluffton College and his master's degree from St. Francis College, Ft. Wayne, IN. He taught mathematics at Ottoville Local Schools for 32 years and coached cross country, basketball, and track. For 53 years, Bob coached cross country where he had 31 runners and 5 teams qualify for the state meet as well as other accomplishments, including 4 regional championships and 6 district championships. Ottoville Local Schools honored Bob by building the Bob Kaple Track and Field Stadium which was dedicated in 2008.
Bob enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and last by not least the cross-country runners, or better known as "Kaple's Kids". He was loved and respected by many and will be missed.
Funeral Mass will begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 19, 2022, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville with Fr. George Mahas officiating. Burial will be at a later date. A visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m., Thursday and one hour prior to the funeral Friday at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Jackson Township.
