Robert H. Gasser

OTTOVILLE - Robert H. Gasser, 91, of Ottoville died at 11:11 p.m. on Monday, October 1, 2018 at Mercy Health St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima. He was born February 27, 1927 in Ottoville to the late William and Mary (Ricker) Gasser. On August 27, 1949 he married Dorothy Fortman who survives in Ottoville.

Also surviving are five children, Janet (Bill) Altenburger, Michael (Janice) Gasser, Kenneth (Cindy) Gasser, Robert "Sonny" (Janice) Gasser, and Keith (Linda) Gasser; fourteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; and five sisters, Rita Miller, Leona (Leonard) Bruskotter, LaDonna Ostendorf, Alvera (Gene) Kleman, and Deloris (Tony) Schulte. Robert was also preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Gasser; six sisters, Ann (William) Knippen, Dorothy (Molet) Osting, Agnes (Joe) Knippen, LaVera (Ted) Hanf, Mary Ann (Ed) Grote, and Regina (Leonard) Boehmer;  two brothers, Art (Mary) Gasser and Bill (Lois) Gasser; and a brother-in-law, Ralph Ostendorf..

Robert was an electrician, retired from Dana Corporation and had worked at Ex-Cello Corporation and Lock Sixteen.  He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville. He was an avid sports fan especially the Detroit Tigers and Notre Dame Football and was on the Ottoville Water Board. Robert was the ultimate handy man, a loving husband and father who adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville with the Very Reverend Jerome Schetter officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Ottoville. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday at LOVE-HEITMEYER Funeral Home, Jackson Township where there will be a Scripture Service at 1:45 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the Parkinson's Association or to St. Rita's Hospice. In lieu of sending a thank you  a donation will be made to those charities.
