Robert G. Hovest
Glandorf - Robert G. Hovest, 91, of Glandorf died 4:10 p.m. Saturday, August 30, 2014
at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima.  He was born May 25, 1923 in Greensburg Township to the late Charles and Veronica (Huelsman) Hovest.  On April 21, 1949, he married Hilda Winkler who died April 25, 2012.
Robert is survived by 6 children: Thomas C. Hovest of Glandorf, Norma (Mike) Rieman and Eileen (Mike) Wagner both of Leipsic, Patricia (John) Inkrott, Dennis (Tina) Hovest and Michael Hovest all of Glandorf; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and a sister, Delores (Clayton) Maag of Kalida.  He is preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Faith Rieman; a brother: Carl Hovest and 3 sisters: Mary Vennekotter, Arleen Verhoff and Irene Drerup.
Robert was a farmer and co-owner of  Hovest Bros. Trucking Co.  He was an Army veteran of WWII, where he was one of the Iron Men of Metz, France.  He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Glandorf and its Holy Name; member of Ottawa American Legion Post #63, Ottawa Eagles Post #2234, The 95th Infantry Division Association,  Catholic War Veterans #1964 and the Ohio Polka Boosters.  He was also life members of VFW Post #9142, Ottawa K of C Post #1957 and  the Buckeye Farm Antiques Inc., and he was a life time charter member of a Tribute of a Generation. Robert was devoted to his faith, wife and family and always put them first in his life.
A Mass of Christian Burial will begin 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 4, 2014 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Glandorf with Fr. Tony Fortman.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military graveside by Ottawa's American Legion and VFW.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa with a scripture at 1:45 p.m.,  a legion service at 7:30 p.m. and a parish rosary at 7:45 p.m.
Memorials may be given to Wounded Warrior Fund or Putnam County Right to Life.
