Robert L. Niese

Ottawa -- Robert L. Niese, 89, of Ottawa died 5:05 p.m. Saturday, March 26, 2016 at the Meadows of Ottawa.  He was born September 15, 1926 in Miller City to the late Frank and Elizabeth (Luttfring) Niese.  On January 21, 1950 he married Phyllis Wannemacher, who preceded him in death on November 8, 2000.

He is survived by his children:  Michael (Debra) Niese of Cincinnati, Randall (Linda) Niese of West Chester, Mark (Rose) Niese of Ottawa and Sharon (Robert) Supinski of Oregon; his special friend:  Karis Schroeder; 10 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren and 2 step-great-grandchildren; and  brother:  Neil (Pat) Niese of California.

Robert is preceded in death by 2 brothers:  Theodore "Teet" Niese and Vincent "Jim" Niese; and 5 sisters:  Viola "Sis" Schroeder, Marie "Hun" Vonder Embse, Ethel "Pale" Burleson, Luella (Et) Snyder and Rosaila "Pose" Rosengarten.

He retired from E. J. Meyer after 43 years, where he had been a crane operator.  Robert was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, New Cleveland and Knights of Columbus.  He was an Army veteran of WWII, the Pacific Theater, and was a member of the Leipsic American Legion. Robert enjoyed Western movies, gardening, landscaping, playing and cheating at cards, and most of all he loved being with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 2, 2016 at Holy Family Catholic Church, New Cleveland with Father Stephen Schroeder and Deacon Tom Niese officiating. Military rites will be by the Ottawa American Legion, VFW and AM Vets.  Visitation will be Friday from 2 to 8 p.m. at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa where a scripture service will be held at 1:45 p.m. and the K of C rosary at 7:30 p.m.
