He was born April 9, 1941, in Leipsic, to the late Henry and Luella (Ricker) Alt. On February 16, 1961, he married Carolyn Werner, who survives in Leipsic.
Other survivors include six children: Robert Alt, Jr., Katherine Lammers, both of Leipsic, Deborah (James) Pothast of Glandorf, Pamela (Anthony) Peck of Leipsic, Anthony (Charlotte) Alt of Continental and Jason Alt of Leipsic; 22 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren with two more on the way; three siblings: John Alt of MI, Ghnelda Schimmoeller of Fort Jennings and Kenny (Sandy) Alt of MI.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by six siblings: Frances Alt, Bill (Dorothy) Alt, Bernard (Dorothy) Alt, Viola (Robert) Topp, Dick Alt and Daniel Alt; two sisters-in-law, JoLou Alt and Vivian Werner Hutchinson; and a brother-in-law, Cleo "Click" Schimmoeller.
Robert was a 1959 graduate of Leipsic High School, a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Leipsic and loved being a carpenter. Robert started his career working for Zeke Eugene Klausing until he ventured off to start Alt Construction in 1966. He retired from Alt Construction in 2021. In the evenings, he would help his brother-in-law, Bob Topp, at Vault Works. If you had the pleasure to know Rabe, you would probably find out that he once did work for someone in your family! He loved hunting with his brothers in Michigan, building houses, his dogs, and spending time with his family. If you have ever stopped at Rabe's house, you would probably catch him watching old western television shows with his dogs on his lap!
