Obituary

Roger A. Snyder OTTAWA – Roger A. Snyder, 71, passed away at 6:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at The Meadows of Ottawa. Roger was born on October 18, 1953, in Fremont, OH to the late Carl "Buck" and Agnes (Fuhrman) Snyder. He was a 1971 graduate of Lakota High School, 1975 graduate of Heidelberg College, and held a Masters Degree from the University of Dayton.  On June 25, 1977, he married Erika Boeddinghaus and she survives in Ottawa, OH. Also surviving are three sons and one daughter: Kevin (Jenn) Snyder of Ottawa, OH, Kent (Kari) Snyder of Louisville, OH, Kyle (Gini) Snyder of Austintown, OH and Kasey (Ross) Gerschutz of Miller City, OH. He had 11 grandchildren: Kate, Cora and Max Snyder, Graysen and Jordyn Snyder, Colton, Tuck, and Hadley Snyder, and Logan, Easton and Emmett Gerschutz. He is also survived by a brother, Rick (Cheryl) Snyder of Northwood, OH; a sister-in-law, Karla (John) Umland of Quaker Hill, CT; and several nieces and nephews. Roger was a high school science teacher for 35 years. He taught science and coached football for 3 years in Bucyrus, OH and the remaining 32 years of his teaching/coaching career were spent at Ottawa-Glandorf High School. Roger touched many lives. Besides coaching football, he also coached baseball at OG, was the Junior class co-advisor, and the National Honor Society advisor. If something needed done, you could count on him! Roger was raised on a family farm near Risingsun, OH in Seneca County, where he learned the value of hard work. You could take the boy out of the farm, but you couldn't take the farm out of the boy. He continued to farm part-time until the present. After retiring from teaching in 2011, he embarked on a new career as a crop insurance adjuster for 8 years. He truly enjoyed meeting and working with farmers in NW and West Central Ohio, NE Indiana, and Southern Michigan. At the end of the 2002 football season, Roger resigned his coaching position. He then signed on in 2003 to broadcast the Titan football games on the radio as the color commentator. For 22 years, he stayed involved in a game he loved. Friday nights will not be the same without him. Roger was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Ottawa where he served on various committees. Roger served his community as a member of the Ottawa Shade Tree Committee and as an active member of the OG Jaycees for many years. He also served on the County-Line Co-Op board of directors. Besides being a family man, he loved hunting, fishing, gardening, and woodworking. Roger's family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the teams of doctors, nurses, and PCAs at the James Wexner Cancer Hospital in Columbus, OH for his excellent care. Although his stay was brief, thank you to the staffs of The Meadows of Ottawa and Putnam County HomeCare and Hospice for their kindness and compassion.
