Ronald I. Hovest, Sr.

OTTAWA – Ronald I. Hovest, Sr., 63 of Ottawa died 10:03 p.m., Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at his residence.  He was born June 27, 1959, in Lima to the late Richard J. and Lenore F. (Verhoff) Hovest.  On November 21, 1992, he married Robin Weitz, and she survives in Ottawa.

Other survivors include three children: Hillary Shearer, Molly (Benjamin) Rippetoe and Ronald I. Hovest, Jr. all of Ottawa; two grandchildren: Isabella Horvath and Everett Rippetoe; eight siblings: Edward (Ann) Hovest of Ottawa, Linda Hovest-Bloomfield of Lima, Jane Hovest of Celina, Charles (Karen) Hovest of Leipsic, Daniel (Cindy) Hovest of Ottawa, Richard A. (Terry) Hovest of Ottawa, William (Deb) Hovest of Gilboa and Mark (Jill) Hovest of Pandora; and a sister-in-law, Marcia Hovest of Leipsic.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, John Hovest; and a brother-in-law, Mike Bloomfield.

Ronald was a lifelong farmer.  He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa, and the Ottawa Eagles.  He enjoyed attending toy shows and collecting Minneapolis Moline Tractors.  Ron loved spending time with family, golf cart and tractor rides with his grandson.  He had a quick wit and a humorous personality.

Funeral mass will begin at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 15, 2023, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa with Fr. Scott Kramer officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m., Friday at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, OTTAWA with a scripture service at 7:50 p.m.
