Susan Irene (Smith) Maag
KALIDA – Susan Irene (Smith) Maag, 72, of Kalida passed away 4:25 p.m. Saturday, February 24, 2024, at the Meadows of Kalida. She was born November 15, 1951, in Lima to the late Thomas and Dorothy (Holtkamp) Smith. On June 8, 1979, she married Kenneth Maag, who survives in Kalida.
Also surviving are 2 children: Anne (Jair) Torres of Lima and Nicholas (Amanda Schimmoeller) Maag of Findlay; 5 grandchildren: Isabella, Gabriel, Clara, Xavier and Dominic; 2 step-grandchildren: Henry and Mary; 5 siblings: Cris Schneider of Wapakoneta, Mike (Jenny) Smith of Fort Jennings, Kevin (Sharon) Smith of Perrysburg, Jim (Lynn) Smith of Fort Jennings and Julia (John) Wiley of Monclova; In-laws: Dee Dee Schlagbaum of Ottoville, Linda (Mike) Chartrand of Lima, Ted (Mary) Maag of Danville, CA; and 23 nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by a sister-in-law: Margaret Stefanek; 2 brothers-in-law: Don Schlagbaum and Calvin Schneider and her father-in-law and mother-in-law: Adolph and Irene Maag
Susan retired from Appraisal Research Corporation, Findlay. She had also been a PE teacher in the Sidney City Schools prior to her marriage. She was a member of the American Legion Post #63 Auxiliary, Ottawa and St. Michael's Catholic Church, Kalida, and its C. L. of C.
She enjoyed baking, cooking, and hosting small caterings for family and friends. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren and following them in their many activities. She was an avid horseback rider and loved horses. She was known for hosting great parties, especially her Halloween and Christmas parties.
Susan's funeral mass will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 1, 2024, at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Kalida with Fr. Nathan Bockrath officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 2 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Jackson Township, where a scripture service will be held at 2:00 p.m.
