Sylvester J. "Junior" Liebrecht

CONTINENTAL – Sylvester J. Liebrecht, 80, of Continental, passed away at 6:47 p.m. on Sunday, July 7, 2024, at Mercy Health Putnam Medical Center, Glandorf. He was born March 13, 1944, in Greensburg Township to the late Sylvester and Clara (Kahle) Liebrecht. On June 30, 1973, he married Norma Jean Gerten, who survives in Continental.

Sylvester is also survived by six children: Dale (Jill) Liebrecht of Glandorf, Mark Liebrecht of Continental, Renee (Toby) Rittenhouse of Ottoville, Brian Liebrecht of Leipsic, Kevin (Ashley) Liebrecht and Kristen Liebrecht both of Continental; five grandchildren: Logan, Hailey, Wesley, Maria, Clayton and one more on the way; a sister, Mary Jane (Paul) Miller; In-laws: Ann Liebrecht, Rose Ann (Ken) Kaufman, Don Recker, Mary Lou (Dan) Baldauf, Tom Gerten, Don (Janice) Gerten, Carol (John) Welty and Kathy (Vic) Schnipke.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Ryan Liebrecht; a sister, Sr. Marcille Liebrecht and two brothers: Norm Liebrecht and Eugene (Linda) Liebrecht; and a sister-in-law, Janice Recker.

Sylvester was self-employed and the owner and operator of Liebrecht Manufacturing and Farm Drainage.  He was also an inventor and held 3 patents. He was one of the 1st Putnam County Ag Hall of Fame inductees. He won the FIN innovator of the year in 2000. Sylvester was former member of St. Isidore Catholic Church, Cuba and the cemetery committee, and then a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, Kalida.  Sylvester was passionate about inventing things.  He loved watching his grandkids play sports.  He always said the best ideas came at the bottom of the keg.

Funeral Mass will begin 12:30 p.m. Friday July 12, 2024, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Continental with Fr. Phil Smith officiating. Burial will follow in St. Isidore Cemetery, Cuba. In keeping with Junior's wishes, Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. until the time of Mass at church. Immediately following the burial a party will be held at the Miller City Sportsman Club.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Isidore Cemetery fund or Parkinsons Group Rock Steady Boxing.
