Obituary

Terry Robert Byrne

OTTOVILLE – Terry Robert Byrne, 71 of Ottoville passed away at 9:30 p.m., Sunday, June 7, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 12, 1955, in Lima to Hubert J. “ Hubie” and Carol Ann (Miller) Byrne. His father preceded him in death and his mother survives in Ottoville. On November 9, 1974, he married the love of his life, Marjorie “ Margie” A. Markward, who preceded him in death on May 20, 2025. Although we miss him terribly, we find comfort knowing he is back with mom (what an amazing reunion that must have been).

In addition to his mother, Terry, who was the best girl dad ever, he is survived by his three daughters: Tracy (Ben) Collins of Van Wert, Jennifer (Nicholas) Reinhart of Ottawa, and Suzanne (Jon) Campbell of Van Wert; his seven pride and joy grandchildren: Dylan Byrne, Caden and Grayson Collins, Noel and Ava Reinhart, Conner and Lola Campbell; four siblings: Denise (Alan) Calvelage, Gary (Joyce) Byrne, Craig (Sue) Byrne, all of Ottoville and Nicole Byrne (Chad Price) of Aurora; and his mother-in-law, Rosemary (Koester) Markward of Ottoville.

Along with his wife and father, he was also preceded in death by his father-in-law, Elmer Markward.

Terry retired from Eaton in Van Wert. He served on the Ottoville Volunteer Fire Department for many years.

Terry spent many years mentoring young athletes, teaching them the importance of teamwork, discipline, and perseverance. He made sure each and every one of his players knew his door was always open. Many of those players visited him throughout the years and he cherished and appreciated every visit.

Terry found immense joy in working in his beautiful yard, tending to his flowers, sitting on his peaceful patio watching the birds, and enjoying nature. He would often be found riding around town on his golf cart, stopping and talking to everyone he saw…you saw him coming in his highlighter cut-off shirt! His presence was always comforting, and he left you with a smile and his one-of-a-kind hugs. He never knew a stranger and always welcomed everyone with open arms. He believed in the power of family and dedicated his life to creating a loving and supportive home. Beyond being his daughters hero, he loved his grandchildren and never once had them doubting his love and support for them. He made each of them feel accepted and loved them for who they are. He supported them all through their many accomplishments and was always there cheering them on whether in person, a phone call, or text. His legacy lives on through them by showing them how to see the bright side of things and laugh in any situation.

Funeral Mass will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville with Very Reverend George Mahas officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Ottoville. A visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. on Monday and again on Tuesday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Jackson Township. A scripture service will begin at 2:45 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. The family requests that casual dress is preferred.

Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
