Thomas D. Barlage

MILLER CITY – Thomas D. Barlage, 90, of Miller City, passed away at 8:41 p.m. on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at The Meadows of Ottawa. He was born June 19, 1935, in Miller City to the late Edward and Louise (Heiing) Barlage. On March 5, 1962, he married the love of his life, Donna Westrick. They were married for 63 enjoyable years.

He is survived by three children: Bonnie (Steve) Aschemeier of Defiance, Kris (Denny) Cavanaugh of Ottawa and Sharon (Greg) Niese of Miller City; nine grandchildren: Nicola (Shane) Young, Jesse Wagner, John (Joy) Wagner, Alyssa (Brian) Miller, Jack (Makenna) Cavanaugh, Brent (Alecia Dunn) Cavanaugh, Ashley (Nate) Like, Trevor (Kara) Niese and Alaina Niese; and 12 great-grandchildren with one more on the way.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a daughter, Jeanette Barlage; and two brothers: Eugene (Rose Ann) Barlage and Richard (Sarah) Barlage.

Thomas was a veteran of the US Army as well as a Stone Truck Driver and lifelong farmer. He was also a volunteer for Miller City Fire Department. After retirement, he worked as a security guard for Pro-Tec Coating Company, Leipsic. Thomas was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Miller City, Miller City Sportsmen Club, Ottawa Knights of Columbus and lifetime member of the Ottawa Eagles. He loved all sports and was an avid fan of the Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians. Thomas enjoyed farming, tinkering around, telling jokes and stories of the past, giving advice and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. His stories and advice will be greatly missed.

The family would like to give a special thank you to the Putnam County Homecare and Hospice and The Meadows of Ottawa for their great care of Thomas.

Funeral Mass will begin at 10:30 a.m., Monday, January 5, 2026, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Miller City with Fr. Scott Perry officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites by the Ottawa VFW, American Legion, AMVETS and DAV. Visitation will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday with a rosary service beginning at 3:30 p.m. and again on Monday from 9 to 10 a.m. at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa.

Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
