Thomas H. "Butch" Balbaugh
GLANDORF - Thomas H. "Butch" Balbaugh, 80 of Glandorf died at 10:35 p.m. Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at The Meadows at Putnam Acres, Ottawa. He was born December 21, 1933 in Miller City to the late William and Laura (Schroeder) Balbaugh. On October 22, 1960 he married Velma Verhoff who survives in Glandorf.
Also surviving are 3 children: Christine Bolen of Canton, MI, Lisa (Tony) Meyer and Shawn (Joan) Balbaugh both of Glandorf; 11 grandchildren: Adam Vorst, Morgan Meyer, Tonya Meyer, Mason Meyer, Trenton Meyer, Marisa Meyer, Tayla Meyer, Logan Balbaugh, Jayla Balbaugh, Jacob Balbaugh, and Alivia Balbaugh; a great-grandchild on-the-way; 4 brothers: Neil (Mary) Balbaugh, Norm Balbaugh, Harold (Leoma) Balbaugh, and Melvin (Carolyn) Balbaugh all of Miller City; and a sister: Mary Ida Schroeder of Columbus Grove. He was also preceded in death by a sister: Dorothy Balbaugh; a stepbrother: James (Leona) Machunas; a sister-in-law: JoAnn Balbaugh; and a brother-in-law: Louis Schroeder.
Tom retired from Philips, formerly of Ottawa, where he was a member of the Quarter Century Club and was a farmer. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Glandorf and its Men's Society. He was a US Army veteran and a member of the Ottawa Eagles and Ottawa Knights of Columbus, He also belonged to the Port Clinton Moose. Tom and his wife were a host to 5 exchange students. He enjoyed going to the lake, camping, and fishing with his family. He also liked watching baseball games, traveling, farming, and socializing with his friends. Tom especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 4, 2014 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Glandorf with Fr. Rick Friebel officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites by the Ottawa American Legion, Ottawa VFW, and AMVETS. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday and from 2 to 8 p.m. on Sunday at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa where there will be a Parish rosary at 8 p.m. on Saturday and a scripture service at 1:45 p.m. on Sunday.   Memorials may be made to the Cancer Assistance Program (CAP) or to Putnam County Hospice.
