THOMAS A. RUHE
GLANDORF - Thomas A. Ruhe, 89, of Glandorf, died 9:17 a.m., Thursday, September 19, 2013 at his residence. He was born April 20, 1924 in Glandorf, to the late Otto and Helen (Uphaus) Ruhe. On June 15, 1949, he married Alberta Ellerbrock and she survives in Glandorf.
Also surviving are five children: Jerry (Kathy) Ruhe of Glandorf, Linda (Tom) Heckman of Ottawa, Greg J. (Carol) Ruhe of Glandorf, Ann (Randy) Boss of Ottawa and Sue (Mike) Smith of Glandorf; thirteen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Ann Wurth.
Tom worked for Glandorf Telephone Company where he was currently serving as Vice President of the board. He was an avid farmer and a pioneer of No-Till farming for over 30 years which he instilled upon his family. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Glandorf and its Holy Name Society and the Companions of the Missionaries of the Precious Blood. He had received the Century Farm Award from the Diocese of Toledo. He was a US Navy Veteran of WWII; a lifetime member of the Ottawa American Legion and lifetime member of the Ottawa Knights of Columbus. Tom was a family man and enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He and Alberta enjoyed woodworking and made wooden Christmas gifts for the family.
A Mass of Christian burial will begin 10:30 a.m., Monday, September 23, 2013 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Glandorf with Fr. Tony Fortman officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites by the Ottawa American Legion and VFW. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 4p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa where a Parish and K of C rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. Sunday.
