Thomas F. Smith

FORT JENNINGS -- Thomas F. Smith, 89 of Fort Jennings died 9:48 p.m. Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at his residence.  He was born December 20, 1927 in Kalida to the late Anthony T. and Magdalena (Schroeder) Smith.  On May 20, 1950 he married Dorothy Holtkamp, who preceded him in death on March 6, 2008.

He is survived by his children:  Cris Schneider of Fort Jennings, Susan (Kenneth) Maag of Kalida, Michael (Jennifer) Smith of Fort Jennings, Kevin (Sharon) Smith of Oak Harbor, Julie (John) Wiley of Toledo and James (Lynn) Smith of Fort Jennings; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren;  a sister:  Esther Halker of Columbus Grove; and in-laws: Bea Smith, Nolan Krouse, Virginia Holtkamp, Betty Holtkamp, Joe Pequignot, and Rita (Denny) Maag.

Preceding him in death is a son-in-law: Calvin Schneider; 5 brothers:  Gilbert, Edward, Bob, Cyrillus and Leonard Smith; and 4 sisters:  Martha Fuerst, Mary Brown, Florence Freeman and Norma Schumacher.

Tom was the retired owner and operator of Commercial Tax Records, Fort Jennings and was a school bus driver from 1964 to 1992. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Fort Jennings.  He was a charter member of the Fort Jennings Lions Club, a member of the Kalida K of C, a former member of the Fort Jennings Village Council and was a Fort Jennings School Board clerk.  Tom was the founder and first Fort Jennings Park Board president.  He was a member of the Delphos Country Club and enjoyed spending time there with his wife.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Fort Jennings with Father Charles Obinwa officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be Monday from 2 to 8 p.m. at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Jackson Township and one hour prior to the mass at the church on Tuesday.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Fort Jennings Park.
