Velma F. Salisbury
OTTAWA - Velma F. Salisbury, 87, of Ottawa died at 11:20 a.m. Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at The Meadows of Leipsic. She was born December 13, 1926 in Putnam County to the late Hugo and Anna (Meyer) Recker. On August 21, 1947 she married Paul C. Salisbury who died January 1, 2001.
She is survived by 6 children: John (Pat) Salisbury of Mahwah, NJ., Larry (Lottie) Salisbury of Columbus Grove, Robert (Kathy) Salisbury, Paula (Dale) Inkrott, and Patricia (Mike) Stechschulte all of Ottawa and Denise (Doug) Averesch of Leipsic; 20 grandchildren: 30 great-grandchildren: 3 step great-grandchildren; 2 sisters: Carol Baldauf of Mendon and Verna Hohenbrink of Ottawa; and a sister-in-law: Janet Recker of Ottawa. She was also preceded in death by a son: Kerry Salisbury; 4 brothers: Casey, Leonard, Danny, and Hugo, Jr. Recker; and 4 sisters: Alberta Maas, Eva Dulle, Imogene Buckland, and Helen Utendorf.
Velma was a homemaker. She was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic, Ottawa and its Rosary Altar Society and was very proud to be a Minister of Praise. She helped make noodles and angels food cakes for the church festival. Velma enjoyed baking cookies and making popcorn balls for her grandchildren and also enjoyed crocheting and making flannel blankets.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 4, 2014 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa with Fr. Matt Jozefiak officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8p.m. on Monday at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa where there will be a scripture service at 7:50 p.m. Memorials may be made to Sts. Peter and Paul Endowment Fund or to Putnam County Hospice.
