Virgil Frank Hageman
GLANDORF – Virgil Frank Hageman, 88, passed away at 6:55 p.m. on Thursday, March 24, 2022 at The Meadows of Ottawa. He was born on December 31, 1933 to the late Ralph and Louise (Birkemeier) Hageman. On May 5, 1962, he married Joann Langhals, who survives in Glandorf.
Other survivors include two children: Marlene (James) Hoorman of Jenera and Thomas (Laurie) Hageman of Glandorf; four grandchildren: Erin Hageman, Erica Hageman, Adam Hageman and Jonathan Hoorman; sisters-in-law, Joan Hageman of Lima and Dorothy (Art) Niese of Leipsic; and a brother-in-law, Paul Langhals of Cloverdale.
He was preceded also in death by a brother, Francis "Frank" Hageman; and a sister-in-law, Darlene Langhals.
Virgil graduated from Glandorf High School in 1953 and became a lifelong farmer. As a young boy, Virgil had to help on the farm. Before going to school each day, he had to help with the chores. After coming home from school, he had to carry in wood for the wood stove, do chores and do homework. Recreation was playing ball with the neighbors, riding bicycle sometime and hunting rabbits with his brother, Frank. He grew up to be a fine, hardworking young man. When he was just nineteen, his mother died. This left him and his father alone on the farm. They stayed together and worked together. Farming was his life. He loved to farm.
Virgil was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Glandorf and its Holy Name Society. He was an avid fan of Ottawa-Glandorf Basketball. Virgil was a loving and wonderful husband, father and grandfather.
