Virgil Ferd Miller
OTTOVILLE – Virgil Ferd Miller, 87, of Ottoville, passed away on Sunday, March 1, 2026, at his residence. He was born February 22, 1939, in Wetzel to the late Steve and Mary (Weber) Miller. On May 19, 1962, he married Judy Martz, she preceded him in death on April 9, 2014.
Virgil is survived by four children: Lori (Rick) Fischer, Todd (Elaine) Miller, both of Ottoville, Mindy (Troy) Fairbanks of Milan, MI., and Alan “AJ” Miller of Ottoville; nine grandchildren: Justin (Corrinne)Fischer, Cory (Emily) Fischer, Trevor (April) Fischer, Kelsey Miller, Trent (Sarah) Miller, Makayla (Isaiah) Miller, Nolan (Dani Swint) Miller, Lauren Fairbanks, and Caden “CJ” Fairbanks; six great-grandchildren with one on the way; siblings: Ralph (Dorothy) Miller, Donald “Doc” (Dorothy) Miller, Art (Tricia) Miller, Donna (Bill) Schlagbaum, and Dolly (Bob) Mesker
He is preceded in death by a daughter: Michelle; great-grandson: Zavier Fischer; siblings: Rita (Leon) Turnwald, Ethel (Orville) Burgei, Julie (Norm) Kaskel, Norb (Angie) Miller, Luella (John) Madigan, Irene (Don) Horner and infant Lenora Miller.
Virgil was a retired mechanic and car salesman for Delpha Chevrolet, Delphos. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville where he had served as president on the church council twice. Virgil also served as Monterey Township Trustee for 20 years. He was the president of the Ottoville Fire Board for 12 years, president of the Putnam County CIC for 12 years and on the board for 20 years total, president of Home and School at Ottoville, and president of the Ottoville Lions Club twice. Virgil was also a member of the K of C, Ottoville. He enjoyed working in his garden and Friday night “family meetings”.
Funeral Mass will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 6, 2026, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville with Very Reverend George Mahas officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites by Ottoville VFW and Ft. Jennings American Legion. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 2 to 8 p.m. with a scripture service at 1:45 p.m. and again on Friday from 9 to 10 a.m. at LOVE HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Jackson Township.
Memorial donations may be made to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church or St. Mary’s Cemetery.
