Virginia Mae “Ginny’ Kirk
OTTAWA – Virginia Mae “Ginny” Kirk, 92, of Ottawa, formerly of Salisbury, NC, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, March 26, 2026.
Virginia was born June 1, 1933, in Ft. Sheridan, Illinois, to Charles and Wanetha (Miller) Wood. The family later moved to Washington, DC. Virginia graduated with honors from Bob Jones University, finishing her degree when she was in her 60s. She later traveled to China to teach English and enjoyed other trips abroad with her husband and friends.
Virginia was very active in ministry throughout her life. Her husband, Walter, was a pastor and evangelist. She devoted her life to serving Christ, first and foremost as a wife and mother. She served in many ways in the church. She had children’s ministries, taught Sunday School to adult ladies, sang duets with Walter, led a junior choir, and was a speaker at various ladies’ events in the US. She taught 4th grade in Christian schools. In her last years, she was part of the Faith Baptist Church family in Ottawa. She truly loved Jesus with all her heart.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Kirk, Jr. whom she married on August 16, 1952; daughter, Jenney Miller; grandson, Brandon Kirk; and siblings, Lloyd Wood, Joanne Littleton, Barbara Posey, Richard Wood, Betty Newman and Sandra Wood.
Left to cherish her memory is her daughter: Donna (Denny) Coates of Ottawa, son: Daniel (Cande) Kirk of Monroe, NC; three grandchildren: Dena Coates, Denise (Phillip) Faber and Beth (Patrick) Thompson; eight great-grandchildren: Isaac Faber, Ahnika Faber, Gracie Faber, Carson Faber, Grant Faber, Simeon Faber, Tessa Thompson and Chase Kirk, and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, April 1, 2026 at Summersett Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. in Summersett Memorial Chapel, officiated by Dr. Daniel Kirk and Rev. Denny Coates. Burial will follow the service at City Memorial Park.
