Walt Allan Young

OAKWOOD – Walt Allan Young, 75, of Oakwood, passed away at 4:03 p.m. on Sunday, April 14, 2024, at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Ft. Wayne, IN.  He was born December 30, 1948, in Lima to the late Rev. Daniel A. and Etta L. (Joseph) Young.

Walt is survived by four children: Debbie (Mark) Trowbridge of Cadiz, KY, Sean (Jennifer) Young of Lima, Travis (Linda) Young of Grover Hill and Jenni Lamond of Charloe; fifteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and one on the way; and two siblings: Duane R. (Cheri) Young, Sr. of Lima and Betty E. Little of Delphos.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by three brothers: Daniel J. Young,  David A. Young and infant William Young; and three sisters: Flora Hendricks, Loretta J. Biechler and infant Goldie Young.

Walt graduated from Bath High School and was a retired truck driver from Cooper Farms, Oakwood. He was very proud of his 50 years of truck driving, as well as serving in the US Navy. He enjoyed boating, beauties, Busch Light, watching westerns and was an avid fan of football – Go Bengals! Above all, Walt loved being a Papa to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and will be greatly missed. Lol (lots of love).

Funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 18, 2024 at HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Oakwood with Rev. Jimmy Fry officiating. Burial will follow in Sherman Cemetery, Oakwood with military rites by the Paulding American Legion. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday prior to the service at the funeral home.

Walt was always quick to help people out. The family would like memorial donations to be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
