Walter John Brickner
OTTOVILLE - Walter John Brickner, 88, of Ottoville, died on May 9, 2022, at 12:25 PM at the Meadows of Delphos. He was born December 4, 1933, in Ottoville, to the late John and Philomena (Warnecke) Brickner. On a cold and snowy February 12, 1955, Walter (Walt, Wally, Pete) married Rose Hempfling, who survives in Ottoville. They celebrated 67 great years together.
Other survivors include four children: Pat (Ruth) Brickner of Ottoville, Suzanne (Ken) Kloeppel of Fort Jennings, Greg Brickner of Lima and Julie Brickner of Ottoville. Walter had six grandchildren: Kimberly VanHoose of Elkhart, IN; Corey (Ashley) Kloeppel of Fort Jennings, Troy (Melissa) Kloeppel of Ottoville; Ryan Kloeppel of Fort Jennings, Adam (Jamie) Brickner of Ottoville and Erica Brickner of Ottoville. He was also blessed with twelve wonderful great-grandchildren.
Walter, the 2nd oldest of ten children, is survived by his sisters Rosie (Otto) Wenzlick, Carolyn (Gerald) Schimmoeller and brothers Steve (Sandy) Brickner and John (Joan) Brickner. Walter was preceded in death by his sisters, Sr. Catherine Brickner CPPS, Doris (Arnie) Ricker and Loretta Shaffer, and brothers Clifford (Mary, also deceased) Brickner and Ralph Brickner. He is also preceded in death by his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Al and Rita Wrasman.
Walter graduated from Ottoville High School in 1952. He worked for Phillips in Ottawa for 43 years as a machinist and tool and die maker. After retiring from Phillips, he worked as a tool and die mentor for Delafoil in Perrysburg, Ohio. His final job was working at Pitsenbarger Supply in Delphos, OH, where he delivered parts and helped out where needed. He never met a stranger and loved getting to know people.
Walter was a member of Immaculate Conception Parish, Ottoville and was a Knights of Columbus member, 3rd degree Knight.
Walter loved carpentry and woodworking and could fix anything. He was a great gardener and enjoyed watching his family grow up around him. He was a humble man who helped many.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 12, 2022, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville, with Fr. Jerry Schetter officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Ottoville. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 11, at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Jackson Township.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Mary's Cemetery, Ottoville or to Immaculate Conception Church, Ottoville.
