William Leonard "Bill" Calvert OAKWOOD - William Leonard "Bill" Calvert, 81, of Oakwood, entered into heaven on the evening of December 18, 2024 at Vancrest of Van Wert, Ohio. He was born March 16, 1943, to the late Leonard and Mary Ruth (Raabe) Calvert in Newport, Arkansas, where his father was stationed while serving in the Army Air Corps.  On June 4, 1966, he married Jeanne Anne Bennett, in Ada, Ohio and they became the parents of three sons. Bill is survived by his wife, Jeanne; their sons: Jed (Melissa) Calvert of Oakwood and Jared (Christina) Calvert of Erlanger, Kentucky; a daughter-in-law, Jenn (Jeff) Heimberger of Hilliard; a brother, Robert (Lynda) Calvert of Sacramento, California; six grandchildren: Ellie, Samuel and Wesley Calvert, Tessa, Alis, and Erin Heimberger; and a nephew and two nieces. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a son, Jevin Calvert; a daughter-in-law, Melissa Calvert; a granddaughter, Bethany Calvert; and in-laws: Homer and Grace Bennett. Bill graduated from Ohio Northern University with degrees in Pharmacy and Law. During his professional career, he was the Director of Pharmacy at Defiance, Paulding and Van Wert Hospitals. He also worked a few years in retail pharmacy. He had many hobbies and interests, including woodworking, gunsmithing, and cars. He served on the Oakwood EMS for over 20 years and part of that time as coordinator. He also served as a reserve policeman for the Village of Oakwood for several years.  A born-again Christian, he was a member of the Defiance St. Paul's United Methodist Church. The family would like to thank the staff of Vancrest of Van Wert, Ohio for the kind care they gave to Bill during the 14 months he lived there. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 28, 2024 at HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Oakwood. Burial will follow in Prairie Chapel Cemetery, Oakwood. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, December 27th and 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 28th prior to the service at the funeral home. The family requests casual dress please. In lieu of flowers and other remembrances, memorial donations may be made in Bill's memory to the Oakwood EMS or the Oakwood Library Association.
