William H. Klausing
OTTAWA – William H. Klausing 91, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Saturday, July 22, 2023 at his home in Ottawa. He was born August 18, 1931, in Ottawa to the late Alfred and Alice (Fairchild) Klausing.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Kathleen (Okuley), a sister, Dorothy Siefer of Ottawa; a brother, Bob Klausing of Kalida; a sister-in-law, Eileen Klausing of Ottawa; 3 brothers-in-law: Gary Okuley of Ottawa, Dick (Karen) Okuley of Glandorf and Jacob (Deb) Okuley of Continental; 3 children: Sherri (Tim) Ford, Erin (Rick) Hughes and Mark (Lori) Klausing all of Ottawa; 12 grandchildren: Justin Ford of Ottawa, Sarah (Dan) Moore of Defiance, Nick (Gareth) Thompson-Ford of Columbus, Lindsay (Joe) Ormsby of Ottawa, Allison (Brian) Fulcher of McComb, Joel (Christine) Warren of Port Orchard, WA, Zachary (Amber) Klausing of Glandorf, Mathias (Julie) Klausing of Pandora, Sydney Klausing of Detroit, MI, Mike (Kelsey) Hughes and Matt (Brooke) Hughes, both of Columbus and Bill (Becca) Hughes of Cincinnati; 27½ great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-granddaughters.
A lifelong resident of Ottawa, Bill was a faithful member of Sts. Peter and Paul Parish, graduating in 1950 from Sts. Peter and Paul High School. He also served as a CCD instructor, Altar Server, Eucharistic Minister, a Minister of Praise and led the rosary.
He proudly served in the Navy for two years aboard the USS Deuel during the Korean Conflict. As a veteran, he participated in the Honor Flight Program in 2016, flying to Washington DC, escorted by his son, Mark. He was a lifetime member of the Ottawa VFW Post #9142.
Bill worked for thirty years as a mechanic at Jack Howell Chevrolet, Ottawa. He was also the owner of Bill's Carry-Out in Ottawa until his retirement in 2000.
Bill enjoyed spending time with his family and loved holding and napping with all the babies. He enjoyed cheering for the Steelers, golf, playing Euchre and the Wednesday night dinner tradition. He was a strong role model for his family, was deeply loved and will be terribly missed.
The family wishes to thank Putnam County Homecare and Hospice for their compassion and care for Bill. Memorial donations may be made to the Putnam County Homecare and Hospice or the SPPS Living Christ Campaign.
Friends are invited to attend visitation from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 26, 2023 and again from 9:00 am to 10:00 a.m. Thursday at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa. The funeral mass will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 27, 2023 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church with Father Scott Kramer officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites by the Ottawa VFW, American Legion and AmVets.
