William T. Fickel
Bradenton, FL. - William T. Fickel of Bradenton, FL., passed into eternal rest at his home on Sunday evening, Dec. 7. 2014, shortly after visiting with his son and daughter-in-law for the weekend. He was born in Continental, Ohio to the late, Arthur and Lois (Troyer) Fickel on July 3, 1928. He married Nona Etter Speidell and divorced in 1973. He is survived by two children, Rex (Linda) Fickel and Vanessa Fickel of Continental, Ohio.
Bill set up housekeeping on June 1, 1976, with Margaret Sue (Peg) Place, who survives in Bradenton, Fl. They enjoyed happy times at their cottage, boating and snowmobiling on the Auglaize River, near Defiance, Ohio.
After retiring in 1985, the winters were spent in Bradenton Fl, until 2008 when the cottage was sold in Ohio and Florida became their permanent residence. He enjoyed their home in the sunshine state, managing the rental units and playing golf where he had two Holes in One. He loved playing cards and was an avid NASCAR fan always rooting for the Fords. He also enjoyed many trips to the casinos. He got a lot of pleasure from his special cat, Katie, and enjoyed Winnie and Cindy also.
Bill served in the US Air Force from 1948 to 1952 in England. He was a proud teamster with Dallas and Mavis Forwarding Co. from 1955 to 1985, serving several terms as Union Stewart. He was a life member of the American Legion and 40 & 8 in Continental, Ohio. He was also a member of the VFW, Moose, Eagles and Am Vets in Defiance, Ohio. He enjoyed all his clubs and the camaraderie of his many friends.
He is survived by a brother: Roscoe (Louise) Fickel; sisters: Bernadean Roney; Marilyn (Frank) Gudakunst, Patricia Centers; Dianna (Garry) Neff; Susan Hitchcock and Yvonne (James) Yeager; sisters-in- law: Louise, and Donna Fickel and Joyce (Fickel) Woods and numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
He was preceded in death by brothers: Darrell, Kenneth, Rolland, Robert and Paul and brothers-in-law, Gene Roney, Bob Centers, and John Hitchcock.
Private Military services and internment will be at Monroe Twp. Cemetery.
