Wilma Rose Vorst

KALIDA - Wilma Rose Vorst, 87, of Kalida, passed away at 8:08 p.m. on Sunday, December 21, 2025, at the Meadows of Kalida. She was born April 30, 1938, in Lima to the late Joseph and Mary (Verhoff) Meyer. On April 11, 1959, she married Richard F. Vorst, he preceded her in death on February 15, 2013.

Wilma is survived by six children: Kevin (Becky) Vorst, Sharon (Elmer) Meyer, Brenda (Brian) Maag, Steve (Kathy) Vorst, Scott (Brenda) Vorst, and Tracy (Brian) Siefker; a daughter-in-law: Kathy Vorst; twenty-one grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren, with three on the way; siblings: Charlie (Jeanette) Meyer, Tom (Diane) Meyer, Pauline (Dennis) Giesige; and a brother-in-law: Richard Hohlbein.

She is preceded in death by a son, Gerald Vorst; a grandson, David Vorst; a great-grandson, Levi Blake; and a sister, Dorothy Hohlbein.

Wilma was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Kalida and it’s CLC. When Richard was honorably discharged from the Army, he and Wilma married and started a family. They had many wonderful friendships and created a plethora of memories through the years, like chicken BBQ’s, polka dances, snowmobiling, vacations, etc. But Wilma’s true calling in life was evident in her home. She was the epitome of a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She raised her children, showing them what a loving mother and wife should be. She spent her time helping Rich in the field and the chicken coop, preparing and sharing meals at the table, sewing clothes and crocheting blankets for them. Most of all, she was happiest just spending time with her family, especially sitting on her front porch and everyone enjoying her beef jerky and popcorn. She taught her children a good work ethic and what true commitment and teamwork was all about. While doing all of that, she had the patience of a saint. She will be terribly missed by those who love her and had the honor of knowing her.

Funeral mass will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 27, 2025, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Kalida with Fr. Phil Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. A visitation will be held from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at the church.  Arrangements are under the direction of Love Funeral Home, Ottawa.
