Winifred Ann "Winnie" Taylor OTTAWA (formerly of Temple, TX) – Winifred Ann "Winnie" Taylor, 86, of Ottawa, Ohio died on Wednesday, January 29, 2025 at her residence. A memorial service at Strouds Creek Cemetery in Tolar, TX will be scheduled at a later date. She was born August 11, 1938, in Temple, TX to the late Winfield Wilson and Ruby (Cruce) McIlroy. She was the granddaughter of the late Henry Samuel and Ellen (Hightower) McIlroy and John A. and Lula (Rockwell) Cruce. Winnie attended the Woodstock School in Landour, Uttarakhand, India, and graduated from Longview High School in 1956, North Texas State College with a B.A. in mathematics and chemistry in 1960, and a M. Ed. in 1983. She was the president of the Student Senate, member of Chi Omega Fraternity, and named to Who's Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities in 1959. Winnie was the first coordinator of Fort Worth's High School for Engineering, Principal of Arlington Heights High School in Fort Worth from 1986-1997 and Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Operations for F.W.I.S.D until retirement. She was a Paul Harris Fellow and selected as an Outstanding Principal of District 11, the Danforth School Administrators Fellowship Program, the TCU Academy for Educational Leadership and the Commander's Award for Public Service by the Department of the Army. She served on the boards of the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals, Juliet Fowler Homes and First Christian Church in Longview, Texas. Winnie was a member of the Green Thumb Garden Club and taught free yoga classes at FCC for many years. She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, husband, Charles Shaw Taylor, a sister, Sandra Armer Cole, and a special aunt and uncle, Edith and Hiram Harris. Survivors include her two sons: Charles Lee (Donna) Taylor of Ottawa, and Winfield (Susan) McIlroy Taylor of Prairie Village, Kansas; four grandchildren: Victoria Taylor of Sea Cliff, New York and Alexander, Katherine, and Ella Taylor of Prairie Village, Kansas; three step-grandchildren: Molly Reinstedler of Vancouver, British Columbia, Harris Reinstedler of Oak Harbor, WA and Blake Reinstedler of Chicago, IL; nieces: Shannon Scott (Glenn) Flego and their children: Henry, Georgia, and Ben of Doylestown, PA, and Kirstan Scott (Devin) Thomas and their children, Emerson and Bram of Prosper, TX, Lani Pringle of Mill Valley, CA, and Lee Kennedy of Boulder, CO; and cousin, Roy Lackey of College Station, TX. Anyone wishing to make a memorial donation may do so to the First Christian Church, Longview, TX or Juliet Fowler Communities, Dallas, TX. No services will be held at this time.
